PLNT goes international: #CoCreateDakar
22 February 2021
In a world where collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit are more important than ever, RVO Netherlands launched an initiative named #CoCreateMyCity. The intention is to create impact by promoting international collaborative action and knowledge exchange. Together with the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD) as a Senegalese partner, PLNT Leiden, the African Studies Centre and Circular Stories , are joining the international cohort aiming to #CoCreateDAKAR.
The City of Dakar, and the world in general, is looking for circular solutions to deal with waste and pollution. However, shifting the system involves everyone and everything: businesses, governments, and individuals; our cities, our products, and our jobs. This project aims to expand the understanding of the circular economy and learn how the concept can be applied to different parts of the economy. We challenge both communities in Dakar and The Netherlands to look beyond boundaries and find that our differences can make ideas better.
#CoCreateDAKAR brings Dutch and Senegalese students together in an innovation bootcamps to co-develop circular and innovative solutions to the waste challenges in Dakar. #CoCreateDAKAR is a full week in June, hybrid, innovation bootcamp in which 30 students from Senegalse and Dutch Universities will use a range of start-up methodologies to design feasible business solutions for waste management challenges in Dakar.
The three main objectives of the project are:
- 1. Mindset: CCD fosters an exchange of knowledge between Senegalese and Dutch students which results in improved knowledge on the circular economy, entrepreneurial tools and exposure to potential future employers;
- 2. Ecosystem: CCD strengthens the collaborations between local private sector, universities and incubators/accelerators, to increase the quality of support to young entrepreneurs;
- 3. Collaboration: CCD fosters exchange and an academic relationship between Senegalese and Dutch universities by sharing practical tools and methodologies that could improve the quality of their entrepreneurial education.
