Happy Halloween! In celebration of this holiday, we went in search of the most “spooky” startups we could find. These startups may seem a little unusual at first glance, but they are all super innovative!
In the startup world, there are different types of thought processes when it comes to a unique idea for a startup. Where some have a commercial or technical startup, others think a little further outside of the box. From reusing human hair to building your own coffin, some entrepreneurs are incredibly creative. Here are some very cool startups with a unique twist!
Re-used hair
Let’s start first with Human Material Loop: the startup that uses hair to supply the textile industry with new fabrics. The company has been processing its scraps into sustainable materials since 2021. This process may be a bit unconventional, but it is a unique, circular way to make fabrics. How does Human Material Loop make textiles out of human hair? First, the startup collects hair and cleans it. Then, using a sustainable chemical process, the hair is made suitable for making fabrics for clothing. Very circular!
The DIY-coffin
Assembling your own coffin? Uitvaartland.nl has given the coffin a new look by letting you build one yourself. Sounds spooky, but what does this actually mean? Uitvaartland.nl’s coffins use an IKEA building method to provide people with a more sustainable and cheaper funeral. This coffin is an innovative way to make the funeral industry more affordable.
Ghosts in your house
During spooky season, it’s a given that you’ll see ghosts everywhere; as Halloween decorations, of course. Still want to see a ‘real’ ghost in your own home? You can with the Hauntify Mixed Reality app by David Montecalvo of VisualGo. Once you pair this app with a VR headset, you walk through your own home and ghosts are projected around you. Quite a scare, although they are not real of course.
If you can’t get enough of “spooky” startups, discover more startups that, at first glance, seem pretty special. So you see, a startup that seems spooky may not always be. Sometimes it’s a matter of getting used to an innovative idea. After all, it only takes one person to believe in it to get started. Do you have a cool startup idea, but doubt there is a market for it? Whether your idea isn’t too spooky? Or do you just want help with the first steps towards founding your startup? We are only too happy to help you with that! Be sure to check out the Startup Play program page and find out how we can help you realize your startup.
