Life of a PLNT intern

28 June 2021

We consider PLNT to be a pretty unique place, but one cliché is also true for us: at PLNT, no team member and no workday are the same. Everyone of us is passionate about their line of work. Today, intern Fieke introduces herself and shares her workdays. Are you ready to meet her world?

Hi I’m Fieke, I’m 25 years old and a Dutch-Australian hybrid.

My story starts in Australia, where I was brought up by very Dutch parents in a very laid-back, west-coast Aussie city, Perth. Perth is a ‘small’ city (for Australian standards), although it has over double the population of Amsterdam! It has also been labelled as the windiest city in Australia… However, I’ve been blown off my bike more times in Leiden and the Hague than I ever have in Perth.

When it came to deciding my career orientation, I was quite indecisive. Then, in my second year of university, I fell in love with pharmacology (the study of drugs 😉). In 2018, I completed my bachelors of Pharmacology at the University of Western Australia. Though after years of evading spider, shark and snake attacks, I decided to escape it all and go back to my roots in The Netherlands. For me, The Netherlands was a home away from home, and I couldn’t wait to be re-immersed in the stroopwafels and bitterballen!

Almost two years ago, in 2019 (only a few months before Corona joined my adventure), I decided to undertake a Masters of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University. Looking back, this was one of the most exciting and best decisions I’ve made. Studying abroad was something I always wanted to do and Leiden University offered a very personalized program for my study.

So how did I end up as PLNT’s latest Marketing and Communication Intern then? Well… as part of the Master’s program, I selected Science Based Business (SBB) for my second year studies. PLNT was originally brought to my attention when I was following an entrepreneurship elective. I was immediately engaged in their energy and what they were doing. It felt like a very creative and collaborative environment so I applied for an internship! I was delighted when PLNT offered me a project in marketing and communications! So that was the very beginning of my journey at PLNT.

Now that you’ve gotten to know me a little better, keep following my blogs for updates about PLNT’s events and programs, my experiences and my internship journey so far!
